Va ser descobert de\u00a0forma casual per la qu\u00edmica nord-americana\u00a0Stephanie Kwolek a finals dels anys\u00a060 i les seves propietats fonamentals s\u00f3n l&#8217;elevada duresa, la resist\u00e8ncia a la\u00a0temperatura i la seva baixa densitat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Si volem un material molt dur, resistent\u00a0a la penetraci\u00f3 o al tall, i molt lleuger, el\u00a0Kevlar<span class=\"s1\">\u00ae <\/span>sol formar part de la soluci\u00f3. Un\u00a0grand\u00edssim nombre d\u2019aplicacions aprofiten\u00a0aquesta combinaci\u00f3 de caracter\u00edstiques:\u00a0el Kevlar<span class=\"s1\">\u00ae <\/span>29 s\u2019empra fonamentalment\u00a0en cascs i armilles protectores; el\u00a0Kevlar<span class=\"s1\">\u00ae <\/span>49 s\u2019utilitza per a cosir veles de\u00a0vaixell, per a fabricar caiacs, parts d\u2019avi\u00f3,\u00a0turbines o cables i d\u2019altres aplicacions on\u00a0es requereix una major flexibilitat.
