Gust de nitrogen,\u00a0\u00e9s clar. Prop del 80% de l\u2019aire que respirem\u00a0\u00e9s nitrogen, un gas que per a la\u00a0major part dels organismes vius \u00e9s inert,\u00a0per\u00f2 alhora indispensable, ja que \u00e9s un\u00a0component fonamental tant de les prote\u00efnes\u00a0com de l\u2019ADN. Per tal que animals\u00a0i plantes puguin utilitzar-lo cal fixar el\u00a0nitrogen atmosf\u00e8ric; \u00e9s a dir, fer-lo reaccionar\u00a0per introduir-lo com a element en una esp\u00e8cie qu\u00edmica\u00a0que pugui ser utilitzada pels \u00e9ssers vius.\u00a0Per\u00f2 aquest proc\u00e9s el saben fer molt pocs\u00a0microorganismes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A principis del segle XX, es va produir un\u00a0aven\u00e7 cient\u00edfic formidable: es va aconseguir\u00a0fixar el nitrogen de forma artificial.\u00a0El proc\u00e9s Haber-Bosch, reconegut amb\u00a0els premis Nobel de qu\u00edmica de 1918 i\u00a01931, permet obtenir amon\u00edac (NH<sub>3<\/sub>), el\u00a0qual \u00e9s fonamental per obtenir els fertilitzants\u00a0necessaris en agricultura. D\u2019aquesta\u00a0manera, les plantes tenen una font de\u00a0nitrogen, i es poden\u00a0mantenir els conreus\u00a0necessaris per abastir a la poblaci\u00f3\u00a0mundial. I aix\u00ed, els \u00e0toms de nitrogen de\u00a0l\u2019aire, ara convertits en amon\u00edac i altres\u00a0derivats, queden capturats dins de les\u00a0plantes i es reparteixen per la cadena\u00a0tr\u00f2fica.
